We’re located at the start of “THE FAMOUS CURVY ROAD” on the Door County Peninsula at a place called Gills Rock. Just up the road is the Washington Island Ferry that crosses the Death’s Door Passage to Washington Island.  The Maple Grove was built in 1949 and was one of the first motels up here. It’s a great place to relax after a big day enjoying all that the nearby harbor towns have to offer.  Restaurants, Winery’s, Cherry’s, Festivals, Art Galleries, Pottery, Outdoor Theater, Kayaking, Boating, Charter Fishing, Hiking, Beaches, Music, Clothing Shops, Quilt Shops, Biking, Marathons, and so much more!  Within a short walking distance is the Island Clipper Tour Boat, Charlie’s Smoke Fish, Hedge Hog Gift Shop, Mariner’s Park and the Maritime Museum! If that’s not enough, you can walk to a fabulous restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining with a million dollar sunset view overlooking the Bay of Green Bay!  Not to mention the Best Fireworks on the July 4th!

Our Reviews

Maple Grove is the kind of place where your kids can’t wait to get out of the car to check the garden for raspberries, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, herbs, sunflowers, or any other surprises that may be there. They run free and sleep hard, get excited about hot chocolate for breakfast in the pavilion and completely forget we even brought the iPad. It’s close enough to everything amazing in Door County (along with some hidden gems only Captain John will tell you about!) but also a world away so you can disconnect to reconnect and create the memories we always wanted together. There is also a very neat outdoor pavilion in the center of the grounds where we have enjoyed sharing breakfast, swapping stories, meeting other people, and famous jam-okie sessions. We like to say this motel is ‘north of the tension line’ leaving lots of cares far away, and we usually have our next trip planned before we leave.Local highlights:*Newport Beach*Charlie’s Smokehouse*Kick Ash Coffee*Twelve-Eleven Provisions

Was just thinking I was going to have to rough it in my car or head back toward Sturgeon Bay when I stumbled upon this gem at 9:45pm. Capt. John was so accommodating at such a late hr and when I told him that on my way to Door county I listened to Bluegrass (and discovered we both love Old Crow MedicineShow) he offered up the Music Rm (#9).I want to come back with a group to take advantage of the Pavillion and show them all the cool retro decor!

Found this place by luck a few years ago, and have been back every summer! Highlights:- close to the Washington Island ferry, and Newport state park- kid friendly. My kids loved running around the field behind the motel, playing badminton and volleyball, and making s’mores over the campfire- social. We love the pavilion for hanging out or eating meals, and have loved meeting other guests and making new friends. There’s also FREE live music on the weekends. And the owner, Captain John, is pretty much the sweetest person on the planet.- It is rustic (literally in the woods) and retro (straight outta 1970’s), but that’s part of the fun!
